Ah, the joys of a family night of fun board games played with in the table!
When we were kids, our videos were novels along with our game consoles have been stored in boxes on the closet shelves. I recently rediscovered this joy with my seven-year-old granddaughter. We made a decision to watch television less and spend time doing things that encouraged conversation and personal interaction. It was a great choice. I know which girls in her course giggle a lot, which boys can chase you around the playground, and just how much homework”that they” expect her to have done. I also had the joy of seeing my very smart, very funny granddaughter become a card shark.
All of this collectively time took me to my own childhood. We really needed to choose to watch much less tv. We just have three stations as well as also my dad’s interests ran the gamut from the news to soccer. The Philco belonged to Daddy. We played outside in sunlight and played indoors when the rains arrived or nightfall drove us inside. I can still feel the sensation of sitting round the table on a cold night with my brothers and sister and occasionally my parents, even the odor of goodies cooking, and the laughter swelling with all the ups and downs of game play. I remember so clearly understanding the warmth and relaxation of the place in the household. And all this is linked in my mind with the beautiful pleasure of board games.
